CapMetro Rail Improvements | Oak Creek Entrance

Everyone should have received a mailer from CapMetro on proposed rail improvements, which include work done at our Oak Creek entrance.

It appears they'll be adding tracks - double tracking - to increase train capacity.

Here's a brief history of that intersection and impact to our neighborhood:

  • This entrance used to connect directly to Mopac prior to the toll road (with a stop light).

  • With addition of light rail, we see more frequent train crossings during commuter times. At a nearby intersection there was a fatality.

  • We've added more traffic with commercial and apartments (i.e. Elysium) and cut-throughs. One of my concerns with the Elysium project was increased traffic getting into the neighborhood during commuter times. It's why the Elysium property was correctly zoned initially as light industrial. The vehicles would be leaving the neighborhood as residents were driving into. It's disconcerting to stop at a railroad crossing, while backed up on the Mopac service road. Sometimes, I just keep going to Parmer.

  • The TXDOT project has removed our turnaround.

So, please share your concerns and stay up-to-date with CapMetro.
